Cookies

What the app stores in your browser, what it does not, and how to stay in control.

The position today

Whilst You’re Here does not currently use advertising or analytics cookies. It uses essential sign-in and security storage so accounts work and private information stays attached to the correct user.

Because this storage is necessary to provide requested account features, the app does not ask you to accept optional tracking. If non-essential analytics or advertising technology is introduced, this page will be updated and consent will be requested before it is used where the law requires.

Essential storage

PurposeWhat it doesTypical duration
Authentication and securityKeeps you signed in, verifies requests and helps protect your account. For the session or until expiry/sign-out, depending on the sign-in method.
Interface preferencesMay remember a basic interface state on parts of the app that use it.Up to seven days.
Browser cacheTemporarily stores app files and map images so pages load efficiently.Controlled by your browser and the relevant service.

Maps and external directions

OpenStreetMap tiles are loaded into the map and may be cached by your browser. OpenStreetMap receives the normal technical request needed to send each tile. If you choose an external Google Maps directions link, you leave this app and Google may use cookies under its own policy.

Your controls

You can inspect, block or delete cookies and site storage in your browser settings. Blocking essential authentication storage may prevent sign-in, saved visits, personal routes and other account features from working. Private-browsing modes usually clear this storage when the session ends.
