The pub’s story
The Stockbridge Tap occupies the corner of Raeburn Place and St Bernard’s Row in a listed block built in 1816 and 1817. The building date belongs to the terrace, not to the pub. The present name arrived in August 2008 after the premises had traded as Bert’s Bar. Large windows make the front room bright, while the rear shifts to low tables and sofas. Mirrors from the lost Murray’s and Campbell’s breweries give both spaces a link to Edinburgh brewing history. CAMRA named it Edinburgh Pub of the Year for 2025 after a runner-up finish in 2023. A three-week refurbishment ended with a reopening on 23 April 2026, adding a new kitchen and refreshed finishes while retaining the established layout and beer focus. Six changing cask ales remain the clearest reason to choose it.

Sources & confidence
Historic Environment Scotland establishes the 1816 to 1817 building and Category B status without turning that date into a pub opening claim. EdinburghGuide dates the Stockbridge Tap identity to August 2008 and records Bert’s Bar as the former name. CAMRA’s record, updated 22 August 2026, supplies the current contact details, hours, layout, six changing ales and awards. DRAM and Stockbridge Local independently document the April 2026 refurbishment and reopening. An older website carries a different phone number, so the current CAMRA number is used and no website is published.
